The project
The Capital, Privilege and Political Participation in Britain and Beyond project had three strands:
- Analysing original survey, interview, and focus group data to describe capital, perceptions, and political activities in pre-Brexit Britain
- Fielding online survey experiments in the UK, Sweden, Poland, and India to test the impact of the capital held by politicians on their perceived representativeness
- Collaborating with political engagement organisations to identify solutions to participatory barriers in Britain
The project was funded by the British Academy and run by Joe Greenwood-Hau, who is a Lecturer in the John Smith Centre at the University of Glasgow, where he focus on teaching around the annual UK Youth Poll. Previously, he was a Lecturer in Politics in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh and a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Government & Public Policy at the University of Strathclyde. He has also held posts as a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Government at LSE and a Data Analyst at YouGov, before which he completed his PhD in the Department of Government at the University of Essex.
